This week we’ve got a tasty lookin’ robot from Angie. He certainly looks like that kind of friendly “Just here to serve you” house robot we all plan on building, and the good news is that chances are he will be consumed and digested long before he can go malevolent like we know all robots will eventually. Like Jurassic Park or something. Anyways here’s Angie’s $20 Robot:

1. Prepping the cake batter: I mixed together robot guts for baking.

2. The baking part: I baked two 8″ square cakes since small cakes are easy to work with.

3. That’s me sampling cake batter. Yum.

4. Robot body bits: After allowing cakes to cool, I arranged them on a baking sheet. I used 1 cake as the body and cut out cake bits from the other cake for the head and arms. He has twinkie legs.

5. Frosting: I whipped up some basic butter cream frosting for this, and looking back I wish I had added some food coloring to my robot friend’s outer shell.

6. Finished product: We decorated him with colored frosting and some icing.  We gave him a control panel and added some buttons and knobs using M&M’s and mini marshmallows.

The cost was well under $20. I already had most of this stuff at home. I only bought a small bag of M&M’s and a few ingredients. This project was fun and robot cake makes me giggle. I will feel sorta bad eating him…

Don’t feel bad, Angie. Not eating your robot is what leads to human enslavement. By devouring your creation you ensure yet another possible dystopian future world will never come to pass.

We agree colored frosting shell would be even cooler, but does anyone really want to eat a silver or gray cake? Next time, Gadget, next time.
