And it begins! We received this fantastic painting from Andrea. She’s the classic triple threat who can paint, write, and paint robots. So she’s pretty much awesome. Let’s turn it over to her to drop some School of Arts and Sciences on you.
Step 1. Assemble the materials: cardboard, a pencil, old newspapers, glue, acrylic paint, and an assortment of paintbrushes (all found around my house).
Step 2. Roughly sketch out the painting on the cardboard.
Step 3. Use glue to decoupage torn pieces of newspaper onto the cardboard.
(Decoupage = painting a layer of glue onto the surface, lay down desired print, paint another layer of glue over top.)
Step 4. Paint.
Step 5. Sit back and admire your brilliant talents as an artist.
Things that are great about Andrea’s work are that it is educational, comes in well under-budget, and that it features a rampaging mechanical menace.
Things that aren’t so great are that like all art instruction there is a huge gap in the process that some might describe as “Use your talent” and that something will have to be taken down at $20 Robot HQ to hang it up if Andrea wanted to mail it. (Hint)
You can check out some of Andrea’s organic writings and whatnot through the following link. Go there. Enjoy.
It’s just that simple, humans, send evidence of your creations to editor@20dollarrobot.com Remember twenty bucks or less. It’s right there in the url.

I like the hint.
I’m always thinking of who I can send my random painting and stuff to, and I definitely wondered to myself if you would want this one. If I don’t give these kind of things away they end up just sitting in my portfolio gathering dust.
P.S. When’’s your creation coming?

Awesome.
As to my creation, I’ve been gathering supplies, and waiting for inspiration to arrive.

I am thinking of a bas relief robot…dryer vent tubes (those sprongy things) covered with white thin plastic or silver foil vent stuff (even better), sliced in half lengthwise, glued to stiff background material, more scrap metal stuff to form body and head, glowing green or red eyes. Under 20 bucks if you can scarf the stuff. Your robot is hot, Drea! Elaine
